FAQ Credits
What documents do you need from me?
What are the requirements for granting credit?
The most important conditions are that you are of legal age and employed. In addition, you must reside in Switzerland or Liechtenstein, or alternatively be a cross-border commuter. Credit is then granted after checking your personal data, and is based on various factors.
Approval of a loan is forbidden by law if it would lead to over-indebtedness on the part of the customer (legal stipulation as required by Art. 3, Federal Unfair Competition Act).
How high are the interest rates and the costs?
The interest rates are between 9.95% and 14.5% APR. The exact interest rate is determined after processing your application, and is based on your personal situation and may be affected by earlier or existing agreements.
The credit costs are determined by the amount of credit and the interest rate. Use our calculator to get a better picture.
In the event of a positive financing decision, you will receive an offer back from us. If you sign and return it to us, you will receive the requested amount, after the legal waiting period of 7 working days has expired, in one of our branch offices. It will be paid out in cash or transferred to your account. You can find additional information about the application process here.
What documents do you need from me?
To process your financing application, we require your completely filled out application, a copy of your ID (ID or passport, or a stay permit if applicable), as well as a current pay slip. If other documentation is required, for example regarding your housing situation, your job situation, and your financial situation and/or previous credit, then we will contact you.
Do I have to live in Switzerland?
We can only grant financing if you reside in Switzerland or the Principality of Liechtenstein.
(For cross-border commuters who work in Switzerland and have a Swiss bank account, it is also possible to apply for a credit.)
If you live elsewhere and don’t work in Switzerland, you may still contact a financing division of GE Money Bank abroad.
What is the maximum amount that I can receive?
The amount of financing depends on your personal situation and differs from person to person. When applying for credit, simply give your personal data, as well as the desired amount. We will be happy to prepare an individual offer for you. It is illegal to grant credit if it will lead the consumer into excessive indebtedness (legal provision pursuant to Art. 3 of the Unfair Competition Act (UWG)).
Will my employer find out about my application?
No. It goes without saying that we will treat your inquiry discretely and confidentially.
What is the minimum amount of credit?
The minimum credit amount is CHF 500.
When do I have to make the first payment?
Normally, the first payment must be paid one month after the payout (on the 1st of each month). You can find more detailed information in your credit application.
How can I find out how high my outstanding payments are?
Please contact your customer advisor or contact one of our branch offices.
May I increase the amount of credit even during the agreement?
Yes, increasing your credit can be arranged, depending on your financial situation. For more detailed information, please contact us or submit an application directly.
Do you charge an issuing commission?
For a credit limit account, there is an opening fee of CHF 100. For cash credit, there is no opening fee.
What happens if I become sick or unemployed, or have an accident?
As protection against financial difficulties through no fault of your own (e.g. in the event of an accident, sickness, disability, or unemployment), we recommend taking out payment protection insurance. You can get more information on our website, or on the toll-free number 0800 814 800.
Can I deduct the interest from my taxes?
Private persons can deduct interest for debt from income tax. The interest statement required for this is sent automatically once a year.
