Questions and answers

Partial repayments, calculation of interest rates and monthly bills

Can I change the repayment date?

A selection of alternative repayment dates are available. In order to change the date call our customer service number 044 439 40 20.

How much time is allowed for repayment?

You have to make payment with 20 days counting from invoice date. Please be aware that within these 20 days payment should be received by GE Money Bank, therefore initiate payment early so GE Money Bank receives payment on time.

Does GE Money Bank offer direct debit (LSV) for GE Money Bank MasterCard?

Yes, we do. Cardholders of a GE Money Bank MasterCard can settle their bills via direct debit (LSV). The full amount of the bill is debited directly from the bank or post office account indicated by the cardholder.

Can I reclaim a direct debit already debited from my account?

Cardholders can reclaim the bank debit within 30 days by making use of their right to object. For each rejected bank debit on behalf of the bank or post office as well as due to an unjustified objection, GE Money Bank raises a processing fee of CHF 20 (see Prices Overview). If the automatic bank debit is rejected three times in sequence, the LSV order is terminated by GE Money Bank and a paying-in slip is sent to the cardholder.

What happens if I do not make a repayment or make a repayment which is smaller than the minimum amount specified in the bill within the stipulated deadline?

You will receive a chargeable reminder. In addition, credit and/or default interests (according to Prices Overview) are debited from your account.

What possibilities do I have for settling the bill amount?

GE Money Bank MasterCard cardholders have two possibilities for paying their monthly bill:

a) Repayment of the bill in full
When paying the bill in full within the stipulated deadline, no credit interests are charged.

b) Repayment in instalments
Cardholders have the possibility of paying a part of the amount due. This must correspond to the minimum amount (5% of the balance or a minimum of CHF 50). Both amounts are indicated in the monthly bill. Note that the repayment of a partial amount leads to a credit interest charge.

Do I also have to pay interest if I settle the entire amount in time?

No, you do not. Credit interests are only charged if the cardholder either makes use of the partial repayment option or is in default with their repayments. If the cardholder settles the entire amount within the stipulated period no interest is debited.

How are credit interests calculated when repaying in instalments?

If the customer uses the partial repayment option and pays the minimum amount, interest is only debited for the corresponding payment period. The credit interest rate for your GE Money Bank MasterCard consists of 13.9% per year. The interest for each individual transaction is calculated daily, starting from the transaction date up to the date when the bill is paid in full. Incoming minimum and/or partial payments are taken into account.

Security

Is the GE Money Bank MasterCard secure?

GE Money Bank MasterCard is equipped with the latest-generation chip technology which provides enhanced protection against credit card abuse. This technology enables you to identify yourself by means of your personal PIN code, to authorise the transaction. The PIN replaces your signature at many payment terminals. There are, however, still payment terminals where you confirm the payment by means of your signature.

Do I need a PIN in order to use my GE Money Bank MasterCard?

Your personal PIN code allows you to use your GE Money Bank MasterCard where your identification and payment take place by means of PIN input (e.g. at Conforama branches, at petrol stations or for cash withdrawals from ATMs). The input of the PIN replaces your signature. Whether a transaction takes place by means of signature or PIN input is always decided by the respective MasterCard contract partner.

After having received your PIN code by separate mail, you can change it at any ATM in Switzerland after your first transaction.

What happens if I forget my PIN code?

If you forget your PIN code, you can request a new PIN code by calling 044 439 40 20. Starting from the third order, a fee of CHF 15 is charged. (see Prices Overview)

What happens if I type in the wrong PIN code?

You have three attempts to enter your PIN code correctly. After the third wrong input, your credit card is blocked for safety reasons. In such a case, please call our customer service (044 439 40 20). We will then forward a new card and PIN code to you.

What responsibilities do I have?

In order to prevent abuses of your GE Money Bank MasterCard, we kindly ask you to consider the following recommendations:

a) Sign your GE Money Bank MasterCard immediately upon receipt on the signature strip on the reverse of the card. Furthermore, change the PIN code you received by separate mail, whereby the PIN code selected by you should not consist of an easily identifiable combination such as telephone numbers, dates of birth or license plate numbers.
